About pancake welding hoods
What is a pancake welding hood?
A pancake hood is a round, flat welding shield held on by a headband or goggle box instead of a full helmet shell. Pipeliners run them because they block side glare and wind, stay cooler in Texas heat and let you get tight on a joint in positions a full helmet cannot.
Balsa wood box or goggle style box?
Most of our pancakes ship with your choice of a traditional balsa wood box or a goggle style box. Balsa is the classic lightweight feel. The goggle box seals out more light and gives a tighter fit around the eyes.
Carbon fiber vs fiberglass
Carbon fiber pancakes are lighter and stiffer and take art and patterns well. Fiberglass pancakes are the budget-friendly workhorse. Both use the standard 2 x 4.25 lens.
